FIA announces punishment for disgraced Russian Severyukhin
Russian kart driver Artem Severyukhin has been punished by the International Motorsport Federation (FIA) with an exception from the protocol of the European Championship stage victorious for him in Portimão, Portugal. About reports GP Fans with reference to the official FIA statement.
On the podium, a 15-year-old Russian who competed under the Italian flag due to sanctions showed a gesture similar to the Nazi “Roman salute” salute and began to laugh. The incident happened on April 10th.
Severyukhin explained that he did not want to show anything bad, but only “thanked the team and relatives from Russia.” In their report, the FIA stewards called the pilot’s actions “unacceptable and reprehensible” and explained that his behavior violated a number of articles of the International Sports Code.
“Having listened to the driver and reviewed the video evidence, despite the fact that the driver expressed deep regret for his inappropriate gesture during the ceremony, the stewards consider this type of behavior unacceptable and strictly reprehensible and contrary to all regulatory standards of motorsport,” the report said.
The rider’s conduct is said to constitute a violation of Article 12.2.1 c, d, e, f, m of the 2022 FIA International Sporting Code:
© Fraudulent conduct or any other act detrimental to the interests of the competition or the interests of motorsport in general.
(d) Pursuing a goal contrary to the goals of the FIA.
(e) Refusal or non-enforcement of FIA decisions.
(f) Words, deeds or written materials that cause moral harm or damage to the FIA, its organs, members or its officials, and more generally to the interests of motorsport and the values protected by the FIA.
m) Public incitement to violence or hatred.
