Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich, in an interview with the Championship, assessed the prospects for Russian racer Nikita Mazepin to succeed in a lawsuit with his former Haas team.

The American Formula 1 team in early March terminated the contract with the Russian, who had been competing for it since 2021. Mazepin reported that Haas did not pay him wages for 2022.

– All salary obligations are strictly regulated in the employment contract. Non-payment of wages in any legal system is a fairly serious violation on the part of the employer. Before the termination of the contract, of course, everything must be repaid – unless there are clauses in the agreement. For example, there was a disciplinary offense on the part of the athlete, which caused damage to the employer – in this case, the athlete may be required to compensate for everything. If there was nothing like that, then it is the responsibility of the employer to fully cover all wage arrears at the time of termination of the contract.

What are Nikita’s chances in court? Any court strictly monitors wage cases. I do not know which court will consider Mazepin’s case. As well as I do not know which court is listed in the labor contract. The same CAS makes sure that the employee is not deceived – they pay all the due salary, – said Anceliovich.
