Former Formula 1 general promoter Bernie Ecclestone said on Good Morning Britain that he considers Russian President Vladimir Putin a first-class person and is still ready to take a bullet for him.
Earlier, Ecclestone spoke more than once about friendship with the head of the Russian Federation.
– I’m still ready to take a bullet for Vladimir Putin. This is a first class person. He does whatever he thinks is right for Russia,” Ecclestone, 91, said.
The businessman also expressed disagreement with the removal of Russian and Belarusian athletes from the competition.
“I consider it wrong to interfere with Russian athletes, including racers, to practice their sport,” added the ex-head of F-1.
After this interview, Formula 1 issued a statement, distancing itself from the opinion of the former leader.
“The comments made by Bernie Ecclestone are his personal opinion and sharply contradict the position of our sport,” the Sky Sports website quotes the release of the championship.
Ecclestone has been in charge of Formula 1 for 40 years. He left the post of general promoter in 2017, remaining the honorary president.
