Formula 1 2022 Austrian GP standings, times, results and summary: Max Verstappen takes pole position

The Dutch pilot recorded his third pole position for 2022 and the 16th of his Formula 1 career with a lap of 1m04s984 in the final moment of Q3 when he leave Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz behind.

George Russellhe was fourth despite the fact that after setting a fast lap in the last part of the classification he had an accident and destroyed his Mercedes, the same as Lewis Hamilton although the latter was unable to get a good lap in Q3. Top 5 completed Steven Okon.

Sergio Perez he was initially fourth, but after an investigation his Q2 qualifying time was deducted for exceeding track limits, so he stayed in position 13.

Pole position for Max Verstappen: The Red Bull driver made a fantastic three-pointer and grabbed the pole position from Charles Leclerc, with a lap of 1m04s984.

Terrible day for Mercedes: now George Russell has an accident, who got confused and hit the bars with the back of his car. There is a red flag two and a half minutes into the third quarter.

Q3 continuedwith five minutes on the clock.

Accident with Lewis Hamilton: The Brit got confused and badly smashed his Mercedes after a hard hit on the defences. There is a red flag.

Max Verstappen in first place: After the first timed lap of several drivers, the Dutchman is the best at the moment with a lap of 1m05.092s. He is followed by Leclerc, Sainz, Pérez and Russell. Alonso and Schumacher have no times yet.

The two Red Bull drivers, the two Haas drivers, the two Mercedes drivers, the two Ferrari drivers and the two Alpine drivers are in the final qualifying period.

Charles Leclerc was the best of Q2. Last place in Q2 for Norris who was unable to complete a single competitive lap.

Sergio Perez he set a lap of 1m05.805s to enter the top ten on time.

Six minutes to go, all drivers have already marked their time. Lewis Hamilton currently leads with a lap of 1m05s475, accompanied by Verstappen and Russell. Those currently banned are Pérez, Albon, Gasly, Tsunoda and Norris.

Q2 started: Lando Norris blocked and passed in turn 4 and a similar thing almost happened to Ceco Perez.

Charles Leclerc was the best of Q1: time 1m05s419 for the Monegasques, accompanied by Sainz, Verstappen, Alonso and Hamilton.

Leclerc jumped into first place: In front of many Dutch fans, Max Verstappen moved into first place but was later overtaken by the two Ferrari drivers. Lap 1m05s419 for Leclerc. Norris, Latifi, Stroll, Albon and Vettel are currently ruled out.

Six minutes to go, Hamilton leads: The Brit is currently the best in Q1 with a record of 1m06s079. Pérez, Alonso and Leclerc follow him. Verstappen is yet to record a valid lap.

Almost all the pilots go out on the track: at the start of Q1 the first times are being marked and, apart from Verstappen, Bottas, Hamilton and Russell, all the cars are already turning. Sainz had a lap of 1m06s303 disallowed for going off track.

Verstappen, the best in the first practice

Max Verstappen dominated the first practice session at the Red Bull Ring: the Dutch driver set the fastest time with a time of 1:06.302. Charles Leclerc set the closest time, at +0.225, while George Russell was third at +0.400.

The top five was completed by Sergio Pérez who was fourth at +0.537 despite having expressed problems with the balance of his car, and Lewis Hamilton, fifth at +0.607.

Carlos Sainz, the eventual winner, was seventh at +0.737 after understeer trouble, while Fernando Alonso was eighth at +0.798. All drivers went 25 laps or more except Lando Norris, who after 14 laps stopped near Turn 5 when he saw smoke coming from under his seat: he couldn’t turn again.
