The Spaniard will seek glory at Aston Martin.

In the Formula 1 every move creates a chain reaction and the announcement of his withdrawal Sebastian Vettel had its first consequence: Fernando Alonso will race for Aston Martin in the 2023 Formula 1 season.

Months and months of speculation, rumors and crossovers between Alpine and Alonso have ended up not renewing with the French team. The Spaniard was looking for a two-year deal but the Galatasaray wanted to keep their flexibility due to pressure from Oscar Piastri’s entourage.

Aston Martin needed a quality driver to restart their project and, in fact, they already asked Alonso last year to replace Vettel, but the Asturian rejected the offer. In doing so, Fernando will be racing for his fifth team (sixth if you count Alpine) in his sporting career, a career whose legacy could be diminished by what may happen to the Silverstone team.

In a press release, the team at Loris Stroll has assured that Alonso is making a multi-year deal, therefore the Spanish chose the British.

The decision is questionable, to say the least. Aston Martin is currently penultimate in the World Manufacturers’ Championship with 20 points, 79 less than Alpine. And most worryingly, since their reappointment last year, they have barely managed to get on the podium and their next best result was a 5th place in Spain and Belgium in 2021.

After taking his last win in 2013 and making a mistake in his decision to leave Ferrari for McLaren Hondathis Alonso change does nothing but cast doubt on a career that is itself of historic caliber.

Alonso: “Aston Martin is committed to winning”

In a statement given to the media, Fernando Alonso said:

“Aston Martin clearly uses their energy and commitment to winning and is therefore one of the most exciting teams in Formula 1 today.”

“I have known Lawrence and Lance for many years and it is very clear that they have the ambition and passion to succeed in Formula 1.

“I’ve seen how the team has consistently attracted great people with a winning streak and I’ve noticed the great commitment to the new facilities and resources at Silverstone.

“No one in Formula 1 today shows a greater vision and total commitment to victory, and that makes it a really exciting opportunity for me.”

“I still have the hunger and ambition to fight to be at the forefront and want to be part of an organization dedicated to learning, growing and succeeding.”

“The passion and desire to play that I have seen convinces me to maintain my enjoyment and commitment to the sport. I intend to win again in this sport and therefore I have to take the opportunities that feel right to me.”

Three Formula 1 teams filed a lawsuit due to the possible technical advantage of Mercedes and Red Bull

The Ferrari, Audi and Aston Martin teams have filed a joint lawsuit with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) over the advantage that Mercedes and Red Bull may have in the 2026 season under the new technical regulations, The Race reports.

In 2026, Formula 1 will switch to new technical regulations, which provide for a reduction in the fuel compression ratio in power plants from 18:1 to 16:1. This indicator will be monitored off the track.

According to the source, Mercedes and Red Bull have found a way to pass the tests while maintaining the actual race compression ratio at 18:1. This could give teams an advantage of 0.3-0.4 seconds per lap.

— The regulations clearly define the maximum compression ratio and the method for measuring it, based on static conditions at ambient temperature. This procedure remains unchanged despite the reduction in the permissible compression ratio for 2026, the FIA said in a statement.

The FIA does not intend to change the regulations at least until the tests are carried out. Teams are allowed to update their power unit designs every six races of the season.
