The young driver is one of the few along with George Russell and Charles Leclerc win Formula 3 and Formula 2 in his only seasons in the class, which makes him one of the future pearls of motorsport and is in Renault-Alpine Driver Academy from 2020.
However, after Alpine’s confirmation, it was Piastri himself who stated it Alpine F1’s statement was published without their consent. “This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not ride for Alpine next year”.
At the same time, the reputation that exists according to French magazine Auto Hebdo Sport is that the Australian could have a preliminary contract with McLaren. In addition, according to The Race sources, Piastri would have a clause in his relationship with Alpine whereby the team would have to offer him a contract before July 31, or he could leave the structure.

Doubts about his permanence in the Woking squad have grown as the games have gone on. First of all, the Australian has a contract until 2023 but Zach Brown denied there would be a clause that could end it early.
On the same wavelength as Piastri, Auto Hebdo Sport published the following information:
“The departure of Fernando Alonso, which meant his departure from Alpine to Aston Martin, may be accompanied by the loss of Oscar Piastri to McLaren. According to our information, Daniel Ricciardo can replace the Spaniard in the blue team in 2023.”
