Tottenham Hotspur winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been ruled out for up to two months after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The training setback comes just four days after the Ukraine international winger made his first Premier League appearance in almost two years. Mudryk joined North London club Tottenham on loan for the season from West London rivals Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

The winger made his Tottenham debut as a 74th-minute substitute during a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday. The match was his first taste of competitive football since his return from a doping ban that began in November 2024.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi said it would take time for the Ukrainian international to get up to speed following his extended period away from the game. However, Mudryk's progress has now been halted by the injury sustained during training.

Tottenham squad depth thinned

The setback leaves De Zerbi facing a growing availability problem in attack. The Italian head coach left Brazilian forward Richarlison out of his Premier League squad after the player asked to leave the club during the summer transfer window. In addition, teenage winger Mikey Moore was released on loan to German Bundesliga side Cologne when Mudryk signed on deadline day.

Tottenham are already coping with several severe injury absences across their attacking line. Attackers Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are both recovering from serious knee injuries, and neither player is expected back this year.

Dejan Kulusevski is closing in on a return to action after spending more than a year out with a knee injury. Sweden national team manager Graham Potter said Kulusevski was 'very close' to making his comeback.

James Maddison, who is also on his way back from a serious knee injury, has not started a game for Tottenham since before Kulusevski was injured. The midfielder also picked up a shoulder injury coming off the bench against Brentford on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Forward options against Everton

With Mudryk unavailable for up to two months, De Zerbi must now select his attack for Tottenham's upcoming Premier League match against Everton. The manager's options to start up front against the Liverpool club are likely to come from Dominic Solanke, Omar Marmoush, Mathys Tel, Savinho and Mohamed Kudus.
