VIENNA, Austria – Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem, who was sidelined for several months due to injury, left the Cordoba Open in Argentina on Monday (January 29th – February 7th).
“I suffer from hand pain,” “a slight tension in the ligaments,” he explained in a video broadcast on Instagram.
“I also miss training, so I have to retire, I am very sad,” added the winner of the 2020 United States Open, who says he wants to return when he is “100% ready”.
Thiem, 28, is currently the 37th player in the world after a poor performance on the pitch last year, following an ankle injury last summer.
The former No. 3 in the world was thus forced to skip the Flushing Meadows, after the Australian Open that just ended, postponing his return several times.
