(New York) Ontarian Gabriela Dabrowski and Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos reached the quarterfinals of women’s doubles at the US Open on Sunday.
They beat Japan’s Ena Shibahara, Alison Riske and America’s Asia Muhammad 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8) at the US Grand Slam leg.
Dabrowski and Olmos are the fifth seeders. They will play third-seeded Czechs Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova on Tuesday.
In mixed doubles, Laval’s Leylah Fernandez and American Jack Sock got the better of Dabrowski and Australian Max Purcell, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

One of the quarter-finals will oppose the French Caroline Garcia to one of the three Americans still in the running, Coco Gauff. Garcia is the 17e seeded, Gauff la 12e. On Sunday, they defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj and Zhang Shuai, respectively. Aged 18, Gauff is the youngest American to make the quarterfinals in New York since 2009.
Tomljanovic qualified
Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, 46e world, which put an end to the career of Serena Williams by eliminating her at 3e round, also qualified for the quarter-finals of the United States Open on Sunday, beating Russian Liudmila Samsonova (35e) 7-6 (10/8), 6-1.

At 29, Tomljanovic will play her first quarter-final of the New York Major where she had never passed the 3e round, against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (5e).
She has already played Grand Slam quarter-finals twice, at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2022, without managing to climb into the last four.
Jabeur defeats Kudermetova
Tunisian Ons Jabeur, 5e and finalist of the last Wimbledon, also qualified for the quarter-finals of the United States Open by dismissing the Russian Veronika Kudermetova (18e) 7-6 (7/1), 6-4. At 28, she reached this stage of the New York Major for the first time.
