VIDEO. Friendly fire. Ostapenko hits the ball from the back of Kichenok on the field
On Monday, the Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok She finished the fight in the women’s doubles category at the US Open tennis championship.
In the third round, the Ukrainian duets with Alena Ostapenko from Latvia and lost to the 14th seeded Caroline Garcia / Kristina Mladenovic (France) under 4 points.
At the beginning of the second set, Ostapenko hit the Ukrainian player with the ball during the serve. Note that this is not the first time a Latvian woman has done something like this. During Roland Garros 2019, Alena hit mixed doubles partner Robert Lindstedt twice with friendly fire. That’s right, then he hit the Swede’s head twice.

Dayana Yastremskaya – Katerina Sinyakova. WTA 500 match prediction in Adelaide
Dayana Yastremskaya (WTA 27) will face Katerina Sinyakova (WTA 46) in the first round of the tournament to be held in Adelaide on January 13.
The match will start at 08.30 Kyiv time.
Sport.ua together with a betting partner bet announcing the upcoming fight!
Dayana Yastremskaya
The Ukrainian tennis player started this season with a tournament in Brisbane, where she barely defeated the not-so-famous Tallia Gibson with scores of 7:6, 7:6. In the second match, Yastremskaya defeated the powerful Leila Fernandez with 6:1, 6:2.
The fight against the world’s sixth racket Jessica Pegula was a big test, in which Dayana even took the first set – 7:5. Later, the American’s experience and patience paid off with scores of 2:6, 3:6, and the Ukrainian player left the tournament. Yastremskaya made as many as 10 double faults against Pegula, as well as many more unforced errors, which decided the fate of the meeting. Overall, Dayana is doing well right now and could be a strong performer.
Katerina Sinyakova
The experienced Czech player is just starting the season; For this he chose the tournament in Adelaide. Despite her solid rating, Sinyakova had to start with qualifying, where she easily beat Australian Emily Chen 6:2, 6:0. In the qualifying final, Romanian Gabriela Ruse was defeated with scores of 6:3, 3:6, 6:2.
It is easy to guess that the athlete entered the main draw as a lucky loser, but this did not make him any less dangerous. The Czech has been in the top 50 in the world rankings since 2021. The athlete achieves great success in doubles; She won ten slams, gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and also became the Olympic champion in mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics. Singles already contribute more to her doubles career.
To guess
The rivals have never faced each other before and the Ukrainian is seen as a slight favorite in the upcoming battle. The Czech has more experience at the top level, but I would give the advantage to Yastremska in terms of personal qualities.
It is very important for the Ukrainian player not to lose his head, to follow his style but at the same time get on the field. I expect a difficult match, but I’m taking the risk of betting that the Ukrainian will have a clear victory with odds of 1.71.

KOSTYUK: “It looked like we were going 150 km per hour, that was crazy.”
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk She held a press conference after losing the final to Aryna Sabalenka in Brisbane:
– Martha, it is clear that today’s result was not what you wanted, but looking at the whole week, you showed amazing results. How are you feeling and how will this help you start the season?
– It was a great week for me. Three victories against top 10 tennis players. I couldn’t ask for more. This is a great start to the season for me, considering I only had one win against top 10 opponents all last year. It had to happen one day. I know I have to keep working, I’m really happy this week.
– Congratulations on a great week. Impressive performance in the final too. There were some outstanding plays in this match, strong hits from the baseline, lots of great drop shots and your footwork. How much have you learned from today when you were able to challenge the world number one?
– We had very close matches in Madrid and Rome, especially in Madrid. It seems to me that conditions in Brisbane were very different from those in Spain and Italy. For example, the court here was very fast. Arina did a good job hitting all my deep balls and keeping her tempo.
I couldn’t do much. I tried different ways, but frankly I couldn’t play my best tennis. I wasn’t 100% physically ready. It seemed to me that I could have protected the field better (smiles), because this is the final. I played very difficult matches against great players. I’m not injured or anything like that. The body also gets tired.
And when you play against the world’s first racket… Better yet, you have to be 100% ready, because that gives you more chances.
Overall I’m very pleased with this week. I have made a lot of progress on and off the court and I believe tennis is a marathon, not a sprint. We have four Grand Slams a year. That’s a lot of possibilities. There is an opportunity every week. I’m happy with how I applied my skills this week and I think that’s something I’ll definitely take with me as we move forward.
“When you play with someone like Arina, she never seems to slow down. As you said, tennis is a bit like a marathon, but it felt like you were running for an hour and a half.”
– Yes. I wish there was more variety at the end, but like I said, the game was really fast paced. So I had to resort to a different path. It didn’t work.
All in all, I think it was a great match. I’m really happy I was able to last this long in the match. I was getting back into the game. It wasn’t easy because I felt like I was hitting a wall every time, like I was trying different things but nothing was working. I kept trying. I never gave up.
I gave myself the best chance. It didn’t work, but in the end I think that’s the most important thing because last year I almost always gave up against these types of players and this week I didn’t give up, which is a really big win for me. I think this will give me many opportunities in the future.
– You have three victories against top 10 players this week. If you keep playing like this, do you think you deserve to be in the top 10 and can you do it this year? As you look forward to the upcoming Melbourne tournament, how far do you think you can go if you play like you did this week?
– I think that if I continue to beat players in the top 10, of course I will have no choice. I mean, I will be among the top 10 players because then I will go far in the tournaments. I think so too. Of course, that’s my goal, and this week has shown that I’m not that far from it. I just need to keep working. So yes, that’s exactly it.
Australian Open? I have time to heal. I’m not playing in Adelaide. I’ll get better, get some rest, and get back to work. Overall, after three days, I feel pretty fresh mentally and physically.
I have a great team that helps me heal and stay happy. I think this is also very important. I’m going to Melbourne and I’m so happy to see my Ukrainian family again, eat Ukrainian food, see my friend Evalice, whose birthday it is.
We have a few good days ahead of us and I’m feeling good. There’s a new tournament in a week, so we’ll start all over again. Let’s see how far I can go.
– You mentioned Ukraine at the award ceremony on the field. I think there’s a lot of conflict in the world right now and a lot of other things that take priority. Do you think it’s really important to highlight what’s going on in your home so people don’t forget?
– I think it is important for me to use my platform correctly and my platform is Ukraine because I represent Ukraine, so I think it is very important to talk about it.
I think I have a certain fame, a lot of people follow me, a lot of people, children and adults, admire me. With the outbreak of war, I realized that it is very important to stand up for what you believe in and talk about it, whether we are talking about war or other beliefs. If that’s what you believe, you should talk about it.
No matter what, if you believe in something you should talk about it. Personally, I think this is very important for me because, as I said in the field, my house has a heating system, just like my family’s house, they have a generator, so even if there is a power outage, they can use electricity to heat their house, but it is still very cold inside. My wife’s family wears jackets because it is very cold at home.
You see, I’m here, doing my job, of course that’s the most important thing, but at the same time the reality at home is completely different. I feel like I can’t ignore this and have to share it. I have a platform for this and I have a say. In my case it is impossible not to talk about it. That would be inhumane to me.
– It seems like you used the first serve particularly aggressively in the first set. Some shots were winners, but some went out of bounds. Do you think this is a risk you should take against an opponent like Arina, or will you play more defensively and look for shots more carefully next time?
– I can say that Arina is very strong. Some of their services were truly amazing; It reached a speed of 175 kilometers per hour. If you are a tennis player, if you know tennis, you understand that this is an incredibly fast wide serve and it does not hit the body. It was a really wide field.
So, you know, he was serving really well and my forehand on the return wasn’t working that well and I felt like he was taking the lead too quickly, so I didn’t want to give him that opportunity. I tried different things but unfortunately these slices didn’t work today either, I missed a lot.
I can say that I wasn’t that fast. So it’s like a combination of different things. I tried different things and at that moment in the field I thought it was the right decision. It was almost all I could do. I missed a lot of goals, I took a little more risk than normal because the pressure it creates on the pitch, if you play a little shorter, it leads to you winning almost immediately.
I wasn’t in a position to win. That’s why it was difficult. But yes, I tried different things. So some things worked, some didn’t. I like aggressive comebacks in general. He responded to the balls very well. Even flying towards the field, the speed was incredible. I’m really curious, I want to know what the speed of the ball was at some points because it looked like we were hitting 150 kilometers per hour, which was crazy.
I think when I played him on clay it was a little different game so his ball wasn’t accelerating as fast as it was here. It was really hard to build anything here because the ball was sliding down the field like crazy.
Every week we have different conditions, different balls, different weather conditions, different courts. So next time I’ll probably try something different (smiles).
– Martha, it’s been a great week. Congratulations. There was a situation that you missed very much and Arina was surprised. The look on his face was “What happened?” It was like. He was probably more surprised that the ball went out of bounds and you were both laughing about it. How do you evaluate this moment?
– It was a crazy coup. I don’t know how it translated to the field, it was really crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever played a shot like that in my life. When I missed during the serve, I touched the tip of the racket and it turned out to be an ace as the ball hit the ground very short. This happened to me in Madrid last year. But I’ve never played with this many strokes.
So it was funny and, you know, it was just a random profit point. It was funny how he stopped and reacted, but either way the ball was cut down the field too quickly. Yes, it was funny.
