Painful defeat for Kyrgios-Kokkinakis in men’s doubles at the US Open
Painful exit for the Kyrgios-Kokkinakis duo in the US Open’s ’16’ stage as the Australians were a breath away from defeating the much more experienced pair of Lloyd Glasspool and Harry Heliovaara.
Nick Kyrgios and Thanasis Kokkinakis were eliminated in the “16” of the US Open by Lloyd Glasspool and Harry Heliovaara.
The Greek Australians led in sets, lost two match points in the tie-break of the 2nd set and came within two points in the match tie-break, but lost 3:6, 7:6 (6), 10:8 and thus ended their joint appearance in New York.
The Greek-Australian duo started the game very well, they used the break in game 4 (3-1) to take the lead in sets, but then they failed to capitalize on their numerous chances and lost the vast majority of the game crucial points.
In two consecutive games in the 2nd set, they had break chances that would have given them serve to win while losing a 6-4 lead and both match points in the tie-break.
In the 10th game of the 3rd set, Kyrgios and Kokkinakis led 8-6 but lost the last four points and were eliminated from the doubles continuation.
