Sfiodek: “I do everything to be a good person and a role model”
Iga Sfiodek, who swept in the US Open final and celebrated her third Grand Slam title against Ons Zambert, stressed that she is trying to be a role model for the younger generations in Poland.
Iga Sfiodek (No.1), just after winning her 3rd career Grand Slam title and beating Ons Jabert in the US Open Grand Final, spoke about all she has offered her country with her achievements while she a special made reference to how hard he tries to be a role model for younger generations.
The 21-year-old Pole had the best words for finalist Ons Zambert, pointing out that she had a very difficult couple of weeks straight after the win at Roland Garros.
What he said in detail:
“I didn’t expect much from this tournament. Before it started I had a difficult few weeks with challenges. When I come back after a Grand Slam win there are always pitfalls.
Although it wasn’t my first time winning Roland Garros, after Paris I had to stay very focused to achieve my goals. The US Open was very difficult because New York is a… crazy place, with a lot of noise.
I’ve met a lot of inspired people here and I’m proud that I made it mentally.
Ons had a great tournament, she’s having a great season, I know we’ve already built a rivalry on the tour, I’m sure we’ll have many more games to play in the future and I know I’ll miss some of them will .
I have to go home and see how they perceive this success in my country. I know that I became the 1st Pole here to win the title and I could already tell from the atmosphere in the final that my victory was being celebrated strongly. Thank you all.
We have to stay united, believe in each other and I’m very happy that with my victories I managed to unite people. I’m glad that tennis has become so famous in my country. I do my best to be a good person and a role model in Poland.
As for my team, they’re the only ones who know how tough I’ve been these past few weeks. Sorry to bother you sometimes but you are smarter than me and I am glad you are with me and guiding me. I wouldn’t be where I am now without you.”
