Carlos Alcarath won the US Open after beating Rudd 3-1 in the final, becoming the youngest athlete to rise to No. 1 in the world rankings.

Regardless of the winner, history was sure to be made in the US Open final. The one who finally managed to write his name on it was Carlos Alcarath.

The 19-year-old Spaniard beat Casper Rudd 3-1 to win the US Open. This is his first Grand Slam title and brings with it many records.

The first and biggest thing is that from Monday morning (September 12) he will be the youngest tennis player to reach the top of the world rankings. He also became the youngest person to win the US Open since 1990.

The race: THE Alkarath was the first to threaten a break, creating two break points in the first game. Rudd held on but that wasn’t the case with the Spaniard’s second chance.

So Alkarath made the break in the third game, which proved to be sufficient, after the rest of the set he easily held his serve and easily scored 1:0 with 6:4.

The second set was essentially decided in the third set as it turned out to be game five. Ruud held at love in a tight game where Alkarath had a break point.

This helped him greatly in his psychology and from that point on he dominated the court. The Norwegian won all three subsequent games, managed two breaks and made it 6-2 to make it 1-1.

Rudd continued at the same pace and started the third set with a break. Alkarath reacted and equalized the set to make it 2-2, then the two easily held their serve until the twelfth game.

There the Norwegian created two breakpoints that were also setpoints, but the Spaniard deleted them both. Somehow we were led into the tie break where Alkarath stormed and managed to win the third set by dropping just a point to go 2-1 7-6 (1).

In the fourth set everything seemed to have taken its course. Alkarath waited for the right moment to take the break. That came in game six when she managed to break Rude’s serve to take a 4-2 lead.

Then they both held for Alkarath to finish the set and the match 6-4 2-6 7-6(1) 6-3.
