The draw for the tournament in St. Petersburg took place when Maria Sakkari faced Anastasia Potopova.

World No. 77 Russian Anastasia Potapova will be the first opponent of Maria Sakkari (No. 8) in the 500 tournament in St. Petersburg after the draw on Saturday afternoon (05/02).

The No. 1 on the board meets the 20-year-old Russian for the 3rd time, with the two players sharing victories for now after Potapova prevailed in the 1st round of qualifying at the 2017 Miami tournament and Sakkari under the rematch in the 1st round of Abu Dhabi.

In the event of a qualifier, the world No. 8 will then face one of Camila Georgi and Ekaterina Alexandrova, while in the quarterfinals she is expected to meet one of Alize Corne, who has had very good performances at the Australian Open and Elize Mertens.

In the semifinals (theoretically), either the 2020 finalist, Elena Rimbakina, or the 2018 title winner, Petra Kvitova, is waiting.

The opponent in the final will appear at the end of the board, with the most likely opponents being Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Belida Bencic and Annette Kondaveit.

Pavlyuchenkova is expected to meet Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the quarter-finals, Bencic Kondaveit.
