Roger Federer has announced his final retirement from professional tennis 14 months after his last appearance at Wimbledon 2021.

Unable to get over the knee injury problem, the 41-year-old Swiss decided to turn a page in his life but made it clear he will never leave the sport of tennis.

We remember 10 games that marked Courts’ most brilliant career.

2001: Wimbledon win against Sampras

Roger Federer, then 19, introduced himself to the tennis world by ending Pete Sampras’ 31-match winning streak at Wimbledon. The long-haired ace won his fourth-round match 7-6(7) 5-7 6-4 6-7(2) 7-5 before being eliminated by Tim Henman in the quarterfinals. Prior to that loss, Sampras had lost just once in London in the last eight years and won seven titles between 1993 and 2000.

2003: Wimby’s final against Filippousis

Federer defeated Australian big server Mark Filippoussi 7-6(5) 6-2 7-6(3) to celebrate his first Grand Slam title and become the first Swiss to win Wimbledon.

2004: US Open final against Hewitt

Federer beat Lleyton Hewitt 6-0, 7-6(3), 6-0 to win his first US Open title. His win in New York followed triumphs at the Australian Open and Wimbledon that year and was the first since Mats Wilander in 1988 to win three major titles in one season.

2008: The epic final with Nadal at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal ended Federer’s five-match winning streak at Wimbledon, beating his rival 6-4 6-4 6-7(5) 6-7(8) 9-7 in what many consider his greatest match game in Wimbledon history designated sport. There were two stoppages for rain and the match ended in limited visibility, with Federer ending his 65-game winning streak in London.

2009: Australian Open final with Nadal

Again it was Nadal who prevented Federer from equaling Sampras’ world record of 14 Grand Slam titles by beating the Swiss 7-5 3-6 7-6 (3) 3 after a magnificent high-level duel : 6, 6: 2 defeated.

2009: The conclusion of the Career Grand Slam in Paris

Federer capitalized on the absence of the King of Clay Nadal to win the only Major missing from his collection with a 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Robin Soderlingk. The Swiss finished the career Grand Slam and equaled Sampras’ record of 14 Major titles.

2014: Wimbledon final against Djokovic

Despite losing 5-2 games in the 4th set, Federer managed to send the final into the decider but recovered the loss to the stronger Djokovic 6-7(6) 6-4 7-6( 4) don’t avoid), 5-7, 6-4 in the 2014 Wimbledon final.

2017: Australian Open final against Nadal

After a six-month injury layoff, Federer won his first Grand Slam title in 4.5 years with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Nadal in Melbourne. At 35, Federer became the oldest tennis player to win a major tournament since Ken Rosewall in Australia in 1972 at the age of 37.

2018: The last Grand Slam

Six months after beating Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon final, Federer beat the Croatian again to claim his 6th title in Melbourne. This was King’s 20th and final Grand Slam title

2019: The painful defeat against Djokovic at Wimbledon

Roger Federer had two match points on his serve but lost in the tie-break of the biggest final in history 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 13-12 (3). Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon. This was Federer’s last final.
