(Seoul, Korea) Canada’s Rebecca Marino lost 6-4, 6-2 to Romania’s Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva in the round of 16 tennis tournament in Seoul, South Korea, on Wednesday.
Marino, the eighth seed, bowed out after an hour and 21 minutes ahead of Kasintseva, 186e world racket. It was the first career game between the two players.
The British Columbian lacked opportunism against the 17-year-old player, whose game was riddled with errors. Kasintseva notably committed five double faults, against only one for Marino, and the Romanian broke three in eight occasions. In comparison, the representative of the maple leaf could not convert the least of her four break points.
In the quarter-finals, Kasintseva will face the winner of the duel between tournament favorite, Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, and Anastasia Gasanova.
