A man set himself on fire on the court before Federer’s farewell match. What did he seek?

The activist wished to add fire to the confrontation between Tsitsipas and Schwartzman. For the sake of a good idea, his right hand suffered.

On the eve of the farewell match of the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, the fan decided to speak out against private aviation. The performance in the name of the purity of the British sky hardly ignited the hearts of the aircraft owners, but it did scorch the unfortunate hand.

The activist did not wait for the legendary tennis player.

Fight against evil

World tennis legend Roger Federer, who has two dozen Grand Slam titles to his credit, has retired from his professional career. Paired with his eternal rival Rafael Nadal, the Swiss lost to the Americans Jack Sock and Francis Tiafoe. The meeting on the center court of the O2 Arena was held as part of the Laver Cup final.

On the eve of Federer’s farewell match, the not-so-legendary Stefanos Tsitsipas fought on the same court with the even less famous Diego Schwartzman. The match ended with a confident victory for the Greek with a score of 6:2, 6:1. One would think that everything ended without a spark. However, there was fire. An environmental activist decided to anneal on the court, and in the most literal sense.

The 20-year-old environmentalist may have thought that the use of private jets in the UK is so evil that the only way to stop this outrage is by setting his hand on fire. The author of the performance, who ran onto the court, wearing a T-shirt with the inscription “Enough private jets in the UK”, initially did not want to engage in self-mutilation, but the flammable liquid spilled by the hooligan got on his limb. Fortunately, the ecologist’s hand did not disappear without a trace in the flames – the fire went out faster than the intrigue in the confrontation between Tsitsipas and Schwartzman.

Whether the activist conveyed his message to British private jet owners is not clear. Even if they felt embarrassed, no reliable information has yet appeared about any significant changes in the airspace of the UK.

It is much more likely that the unlucky environmentalist simply caused himself senseless damage, and even deprived himself of the chance to finally see the farewell match of the legendary Federer. The troublemaker, by the way, did not catch Tsitsiapas’ victory either – the security service promptly took the arsonist out of the stadium.
