Bublik shocked Zverev and won the title in Montpellier
For the second time in as many games, Alexander Bublik defeated Sasha Zverev to win the Montpellier Open title.
World No. 35 Alexandre Bublick caused the surprise and defeated No. 3 Sasha Zverev 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in the final in Montpellier (ATP 250), winning his first ATP -Title.
The 24-year-old tennis player from Kazakhstan showed an excellent match and had all the solutions without any pressure against the German, who was considered the absolute favorite for the cup.
Bublik started the match strong and made the first break, which Zverev immediately recaptured. The German served better but failed to push his opponent in the rallies, making several easy mistakes that led to the loss of the set.
That didn’t change in the 2nd set either, where both players were able to increase their percentage on the serve, but Bublick continues to find winners everywhere and pushes his opponent more and more in the 2nd serve. With two easy breaks, Alexander managed to finish the match in 2 sets and win the trophy.
In fact, this was his 2nd win against Zverev in as many games. The 24-year-old will reach the top 30 from Monday, taking him up to 31st in the world rankings.
