LONDON – Scottish Andy Murray, 102nd in the world rankings, has confirmed that he will not take part in the clay court in the coming months, in order to put his chances in favor of participating in Wimbledon (June 27 – July 10).
The three-time Grand Slam winner (United States Open 2012, Wimbledon 2013 and 2016) also formalizes his absence from Roland-Garros, which he lost last year.
Andy Murray, 34, struggled to regain the level of play that led him to No. 1 in the world in 2016 after major surgery in 2019 for a hip problem.
“I do not intend to play on the ground, because the ground has made my problems worse in the last two years,” Murray told BBC.
“I almost lost the Wimbledon last year, I will not take any chances and I hope to have a good preparation for the grass season. »
Murray will return to action at the Rotterdam Open next week for the first time since losing in the second round of the Australian Open.
