Tsitsipas: “I can play on all surfaces”
Ready for the transition to indoor hard court is Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is on board #1 at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.
Last year’s semi-finalist of the tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipas, meets Alejandro Davidovic-Fokina on Tuesday (7/2) and says he is ready for a difficult week in the Dutch city.
“After a long time outdoors, it takes some time to get used to the conditions indoors. It’s always difficult when you play indoors and training helps.” Tsitsipas said at Sunday’s press conference, who will have his new staffer/coach Thomas Inquist by his side.
“I think I’m good on all surfaces. I don’t want to be the athlete who’s only good on one surface. I can play well on all surfaces and earn ATP points on every surface that tournaments are held on.” completed the No. 4 in the world rankings.
The 22-year-old Greek champion comes from taking part in the semi-finals of the Australian Open and although he hasn’t had the best preparation during the off-season due to an elbow surgery last November, he’s doing better and better.
Tsitsipas needs to be strong from his first game in Rotterdam when he meets the dangerous world No. 46 Alejandro Davidovic-Fokina.
“The first laps are always the most difficult. Alejandro has good results. Obviously he hasn’t reached his limit yet but he’s on the right track. He’s a strong opponent and always tries to do his best.” said Stefanos about his opponent in the 1st round of Rotterdam.
Finally, Tsitsipas referred to the return of the fans to the stands of the Ahoy Arena: “I look forward to her return. “The more people come, the better.”
