THE Franz Tiafoe He was the big star for Team World at the Laver Cup as his performances were instrumental in the overall dominance of John McEnroe’s side. The American even scored the win that sealed Team World’s maiden title in the event.
However, Tiafoe was heavily criticized for both double wins in which he and Jack Sock defeated Federer and Nadal in Friday’s historic match, which was also the last of the Swiss’s career. In fact, at one point in the game, when the American tried to get close to the net, he found Federer with the ball in his hands, leading to the London crowd booing him.
However, Tiafoe showed no guilt for Friday’s doubles win, while humorously emphasizing that he would never apologize to the Swiss. “I will not apologize. He must first ask about the 24 years he beat everyone‘ he stated with a smile.
“I don’t think I should apologize for beating Federer. I want to see him and talk to him, but I don’t want to apologize to him. I just want to say a big thank you to him for allowing me to experience this great and historic event, but also thank him for what he has done in the game.
Nice to know him, nice to be friends and colleagues and I wish him the best for the future, but no, I won’t apologize‘ the American tennis player added with a great deal of humor but also with respect.
