No change in the top 10

(Paris) The trio made up of Serbian Novak Djokovic, Russian Daniil Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev still sits at the top of the ATP ranking published on Monday, marked in particular by the return of the former N. 1 world Andy Murray in the top 100, at 95and rank.

Neither Djokovic, expelled after a legal saga from Australia before the first Grand Slam of the year because he was not vaccinated against COVID-19, nor Medvedev, an unfortunate finalist in Melbourne eight days ago, have played since the tournament won by Rafael Nadal, but the gap between the two men has increased slightly (1240 points for Djokovic, against 890 last week).

The Serb benefits until February 21 from the points he had acquired in Melbourne last year: the ranking established by the ATP rolls over a year and the first Grand Slam of the year had been postponed to the month of February in 2021.

Alexander Zverev, the only man in the top three to have played a tournament in the wake of the Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the round of 16 by Denis Shapovalov, lost Sunday in the final of the Open ATP 250 from Montpellier against the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, who gained four places (N.31) thanks to this first success.

No change is to be noted in the world top 10 this week.

Lower in the ranking, the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, eliminated by Bublik in the semi-finals in Montpellier, nibbles two places (N.17), and notably returns ahead of the Frenchman Gaël Monfils, who left as soon as he entered the running in the Herault (N.18, -2).

Much lower finally, to note the return of the ex-N. 1 Scottish world Andy Murray in the top 100, at 95and rank (+7). The 34-year-old three-time US Open winner, who is struggling to regain his best level since major surgery in 2019 for a hip problem, has just announced that he will be skipping the entire season of clay – including Roland-Garros – in order to put all the chances on his side to participate in Wimbledon (June 27-July 10).

On the French side, Ugo Humbert is at 41and world rank (-1) and ahead of Benoît Paire (N.50, +4), Adrian Mannarino (N.57, +1), quarter-finalist in Montpellier, Arthur Rinderknech (N.60), Benjamin Bonzi (N .68), Hugo Gaston (N.69) and Richard Gasquet (N.77, -2), also eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Montpellier tournament, which he has already won three times.
