Leylah Fernandez enters the top 20
(Paris) The Australian Ashleigh Barty, recently victorious in the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne, is still firmly at the top of the WTA ranking published on Monday, while the young Canadian Leylah Fernandez is entering the top 20.
No change in the leading trio of the WTA after a week during which no tournament was disputed, in the wake of the Australian Open: Barty still fairly well ahead of the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and the Czech Barbora Krejcikova.
Behind these three women, another Czech, Karolina Pliskova, is now N.4 (+1), ahead of two Spaniards: Paula Badosa, who reaches 5and rank (+1) his best ranking and Garbine Muguruza (+1). She also overtakes the Greek Maria Sakkari (+1).
At 8and world rank, the Polish Iga Swiatek falls four places, and is ahead of the Estonian Annett Kontaveit and the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who finds the top 10 (+1) to the detriment of the American Danielle Collins, unfortunate finalist in Melbourne (11and-1).
A little further down the rankings, the young Canadian Leylah Fernandez, 19, made her first entry into the top 20, at 19and world rank and is now ahead of another great hope of the circuit, the American Cori Gauff, 17, 20and world (-3).
On the side of the French, Alizé Cornet is still the first representative of the Tricolores thanks to the jump of 24 places that had earned her her quarter-final in Melbourne, and points to 37and rank. Behind her, Caroline Garcia is N.69 (+2), Clara Burel N.77 (+1), Océane Dodin N.83. At 98and world rank, Kristina Mladenovic is the last Frenchwoman in the top 100.
