Djokovic beats Shafiulin 2-0 to advance to Tel Aviv final
Novak Djokovic reached the 127th ATP final of his career, defeating Roman Shafiulin in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic and No. 7 in the ATP world rankings prevailed against the Frenchman, who lost seven games, and meets Marin Cilic and Constant Lestien in the final on Sunday (2/10) with his 89th ATP title in the background of the ATP 250 tournament of Israel.
After an hour and 36 minutes of play, Nole was ranked 104th in the world 6-1, 7-6(3) and scored his 10th consecutive Tour win. He has been defeated by Rafa Nadal in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros since May 31.
Djokovic only made ten unforced errors in the match and conceded a break. Djokovic drove to victory despite not being able to serve for the match in the 10th game of the second set.
With 45/64 points won behind serve, the Serb finished the semifinals, serving seven aces and counting 3/7 break point opportunities, taking advantage of his opponent’s many unforced errors (28).
Djokovic will play his 4th ATP Finals of the season on Sunday while Shafiulin secured a new career world rankings record with his excellent run in Tel Aviv. The Frenchman will be in 92nd place on Monday (October 3).
