Tsitsipas draw changes at Astana Open due to Shiner’s withdrawal
Shiner’s Astana Open withdrawal through injury Stefanos Tsitsipas faces a player from qualifiers after passing the first round, rather than Marin Cilic as originally.
Yannick Sinner’s injury at the Sofia tournament has forced the Italian to withdraw from next week’s Astana Open. This development brought changes at the top of the board, where Stefanos Tsitsipas participates, and in particular in relation to his opponent in the 2nd round of the competition.
Before the announcement of Shiner’s withdrawal, if the Greek tennis player qualifies for the premiere against Mikail Kukouskin in the 2nd round, he would face either Marin Cilic or a player from the qualifiers.
However, with Sinner withdrawing, Cilic was moved to the…hell end of the table and the Croatian’s spot was taken by a player from qualifiers. This means that if Stefanos Tsitsipas ever progresses through the 1st round, he will play a qualifier for a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament, while Cilic will face Germany’s Oscar Ote.
We remind you that Tsitsipas was moved to the top of the board along with world No. 1 Carlos Alcarath, with his initial path becoming more passable after this development.
The Astana 500 tournament will take place from October 3rd to 9th.
