Sviontek made it into the ITF and WTA
Iga Swiodek has announced that he will not compete with the Polish national team at the Billie Jean King Cup and has criticized the ITF and WTA for failing to find a solution to the date issue.
This year’s two-time Grand Slam champion Iga Sviontek has sadly announced her withdrawal from the Billie Jean King Cup, blaming tennis officials for failing to reach an agreement.
The world No. 1 will not take part in the national team’s top event, the final of which will be played in Glasgow from November 8-13, she informed her compatriots via Instagram.
The main reason for the 21-year-old Pole’s withdrawal is to attend the WTA Finals in Texas, which will be held in Fort Worth from October 31 to November 7, and just a day later the commitments of the 12 national teams that will take part in the final , start with the Billie Jean King Cup.
“I’ve thought about it a lot and talked about it a lot with my team but I won’t be able to play at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow and that makes me sad. I’m very sorry because I play for Poland whenever possible and I always do my best. Playing in Poland this year was an honor and I was hoping to do it again at the end of the season.
I’m disappointed that the tennis federations haven’t agreed on something as fundamental as the tournament calendar, which gives us just one day to travel the world and change the time zone.” Sviontek wrote in an Instagram story.
