Sakkari meets the amazing parks that eliminated Pliskova in Ostrava
Alicia Parks (No. 144) will be Maria Sakkari’s opponent at the AEGL Open in Ostrava.
The 21-year-old American and tennis player No. 144 in the WTA world rankings, Alicia Parks scored the most important win of her career with her debut in the main draw of the AEGL Open and ‘sealed’ her ticket to her date with Maria Sakkari in the second round.
After 89 minutes of play, Parks eliminated former No. 1 and current World No. 19 Karolina Pliskova by an emphatic 6-0, 7-6 (3) to advance to the bottom 16 of a WTA 500 for the second time in her career .
The American put on an excellent performance and caused a huge surprise. In fact, it only took 27 minutes to conquer the 1st set of the game with a great bagel while coming back from a break in the second part of the game (1-3) to “close” it in the challenging draw. -pause that followed.
Sakkari and Parks will face each other in the 2nd round of the AEGL Open, the 1st meeting between them on the tour, with the 27-year-old Greek and No. 1 defeated in the final by Annette Kontaveit.
