(Tokyo) Denis Shapovalov advanced to the Japan Open quarter-finals by beating Japanese qualifier Rio Noguchi 6-3, 6-1.
The Canadian, finalist at the Korea Open on Sunday, dominated in service at Colisée Ariake. The 23-year-old Ontarian had five aces and won 81% of his first serves in a contest lasting just 57 minutes.
Seeded seventh, Shapovalov will battle Croatian Borna Coric, ranked ninth, in the quarterfinals. Coric scored 10 aces en route to a 7-5, 6-2 win over American Brandon Nakashima.
In other matches, Miomir Kecmanovic saved six match points before beating Daniel Evans 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to advance to the quarter-finals.

Nick Kyrgios meanwhile had 22 aces to come from behind and beat Kamil Majchrzak 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Australian thus qualified for his ninth quarter-finals of 2022.
