Djokovic: ‘I’m shocked by Bedvedev’s withdrawal, he seemed perfectly fine’
Novak Djokovic said he was shocked by Daniil Medvedev’s withdrawal in the Astana Open semifinals and said he had no idea the Russian was in trouble.
Novak Djokovic couldn’t believe it. The Serb saw Danil Medvedev exit the match a few seconds after the end of the 2nd set between them and in his off-court comments he declared…shocked.
The 35-year-old and holder of 21 Grand Slam titles stressed that he sees his opponent’s movement extremely well but also said that he didn’t think the Russian would give up unless he had an injury problem.
What he said in detail:
“I’m still surprised that he left the race. He looked perfectly fine.
Maybe he played a bit slower in the last six or seven points, but it’s a big shock. I expected a fight in the 3rd set. I hope his injury is not serious.
I know Daniil is a good boy and a great fighter. He wouldn’t leave a game like this without feeling like he can’t go on and if he does it will make his injury worse. He told me he had a problem with his adductors.”
