Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation Alexei Selivanenko believes that the defeat of Aslan Karatsev from Briton Cameron Norrie at the ATP tournament in Stockholm is due to the fact that the Russian player lacks self-confidence this season.
Karatsev lost in the second round of the ATP tournament in Stockholm to Norrie with a score of 7:6 (10:8), 3:6, 4:6. The match lasted 3 hours and 2 minutes.
– Aslan managed to snatch the first set in the tie-break, but, unfortunately, he could not further consolidate the advantage. Cameron is playing very well this year and in order to beat him, you need to play at your best throughout the match. Unfortunately, Aslan was not enough for a three-hour duel, although during the game he showed that he was able to play to win.
From the outside, it seems that Aslan this season lacks the confidence that he is ready to play to win with any opponents. The way he played almost the entire last season. But the “second season problem” in tennis is well known. It is always difficult to secure a take-off to the top of the world classification, as Aslan did last year, a lot of people face this, ”Selivanenko told RB Sport.
29-year-old Karatsev has failed to clear the second-round barrier for 11 tournaments in a row.
