Former world number one Romanian Simona Halep has denied allegations of doping.

Earlier, 31-year-old Halep was temporarily suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which found the banned drug roxadastat in the athlete’s blood.

– Today begins the most difficult match in my life: the fight for the truth. I was notified of a positive test result for a substance called roxadastat in an extremely small amount, which was the biggest shock of my life.

In my entire career, the idea of cheating has never crossed my mind, because it is completely contrary to all the values on which I was brought up.

Faced with such an unfair situation, I feel completely bewildered and betrayed. I will fight to the end to prove that I have never knowingly taken any illegal substances and I believe that sooner or later the truth will come out.

It’s not about titles or money. It’s about honor and a love story that I’ve developed playing tennis for the past 25 years,” Halep tweeted.

During her career, Halep has won two Grand Slams in singles. In total, she has 25 titles of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). In the current WTA ranking, the Romanian ranks ninth.
