Maria Sakkari remains unbeaten in the Guadalajara 1000 tournament, beating Marie Buzkova (No. 38) 2-0 a day late. He meets Pegula (No. 5) in the final (October 24th, 2:15 am).

Maria Sakkari continues her impressive run at the 1000m tournament in Guadalajara and on Sunday evening (October 23) finished what she had started early in the morning, but was -temporarily- stopped by the rain.

After securing her spot at this year’s WTA Finals, the Greek champion is now just one win away from winning the most important title of her career.

Dominates Marie Buzkova (No. 38) with 7-5, 6-4Sakkari qualified for the final of the Guadalajara Open and will compete in the early hours of Monday (October 24th). 02:15American and world No. 5 Jessica Pegula.

After two hours and 32 minutes of pure struggle, the 27-year-old got through to the all-important qualifier, using her excellent play from the return position despite not being on the best day on serve.

Maria only managed 53% on the 1st serve, but she saved 10/12 break points from her Czech opponent and showed she’s made for tough situations for another match in the tournament.

Calm, with 38/85 points won on Boskova’s serve, Sakkari averaged 4/14 break points and by getting two breaks in each set, she bent the 24-year-old’s resistance.

This will be Maria’s 4th WTA Finals in 2022, aiming to finally return to the titles after the WTA 250 event she won in Rabat in 2019.

Overall she has a record of 1-5 in the finals and 0-1 in the thousands as she was defeated by Iga Sfiodek in Indian Wells earlier this year. If she wins Pegula and is crowned champion in Mexico, she will secure her rise to No. 3 in the world rankings.
