Now our champion is waiting to see who will compete against him from Rublev (No. 7) or Aliasim (No. 9).
The 23-year-old Greek celebrated his 4th straight win at the 500 tournament in the Netherlands and will compete in the 18th ATP final of his career. After an hour and 52 minutes of play, the No. 1 on the board is just one win away from his 8th career ATP title and 1st in an ATP 500 series tournament.
Tsitsipas started the match sluggishly and paid for it by losing the 1st set, as Lechecka broke the first serve in the 3rd game of the semifinals, took a 1-2 lead and was then able to hold it comfortably (4:6).
The Greek tennis player didn’t even reach the break point in the first part of the match as his 20-year-old opponent put dangerous obstacles in front of him early on.
However, over time, Tsitsipas increased his pace, became more aggressive, reduced his mistakes and, combined with his experience in such matches, was able to finish the semifinals.
Lechecka served to stay in the set (5-4) and failed. Stefanos’ 2nd breakpoint in the match (the 1st was at 1:1 in the 2nd set) resulted in a draw. Tsitsipas won the 2nd set 6: 4 and sent the semifinals into the third set.
There, with no more pressure, he played his best tennis and grabbed two breaks, “thrown” for the final. Worth noting is the fact that in his four service games he only lost four points in total (16-4).
With 57/79 points won behind serve, the No. 1 on the board in Rotterdam finished the match and took advantage of 3/5 break opportunities. Lechetska was “injured” by his 2nd serve (19/41 points) and his inexperience.
However, despite the defeat, it has only positive elements from this week in the Netherlands, where it reached the semi-finals of the ABN Amro tournament in the qualifiers and will make its debut in the Top100 next week (No. 95).
Tsitsipas is in very good shape, he plays good tennis and has all the backgrounds to achieve conquest of the trophy that will give him a big boost for the continuation of the year.
