Tsitsipas’ explosion brought comfortable qualification for the second round of the tournament in Vienna

Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5) trailed 4-3 in the first game against Novak (No. 155), charged heavily towards the seat where his father was sitting and then managed the turnaround. He managed to win the first, then effortlessly won the second set to qualify by 0-2 sets (6-7(2), 2-6).

Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5) qualified for the second round of the Vienna tournament after beating Austria’s Api Andy Novak (No. 155) 2-0 in a set.

The Greek tennis player trailed 4-3 in the first game against Novak, rushed to where his father was sitting and then managed to end the upset. He managed to win the first, then effortlessly won the second set to qualify by 0-2 sets (6-7(2), 2-6).


In the second round, Tsitsipas meets Coric whom he had beaten in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters a few weeks ago. The Croatian made a victorious debut on Monday (October 24) in Vienna.

Against Novak, the 24-year-old Greek scored his 57th win of 2022, confirming his date with the round of 16 of the Erste Bank Open for the 3rd straight year.

He has never been defeated in his tournament debut and although he didn’t start well against Novak, he had the solutions not to break with tradition this year.


He served eight aces, hitting 27 winners in total and Tsitsipas committed just six unforced errors to claim the win after 90 minutes of play.

His nerves might have been stretched in some moments of the game but he took advantage of the competitive advantage over his opponent and charged towards his box as soon as he received a break in the 1st set, coming back changed, winning 10 games out of 14 played 3:4 and left the field as the winner.
