Djokovic: “The title in London gave me a big boost”
Novak Djokovic spoke about the issues he faced throughout the year while also pointing out how important it was for him to win Wimbledon.
This year was perhaps the most difficult of Novak Djokovic’s career, spending most of it off the pitch. The Serbian super athlete endured an unprecedented spat while in Australia, which eventually led to deportation and a three-year ban on future visits to the country.
That development affected his playing form for the first half of the season, and then came his 21st career Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, which brought him back to normal.
“The first part of the year with what happened in Australia was very demanding, very emotional and my psychology affected my game. I managed to find my desire to play again towards the end of the clay season. Wimbledon always comes at the right time in my When I needed that huge boost of confidence and a big title, Wimbledon is always there.
I didn’t play much after Wimbledon. I played at the Laver Cup and then in Tel Aviv and Astana where I played really good tennis. I hope to continue the very good results I’ve had in my indoor career.” Nole said during the Paris Masters official press conference.
The 35-year-old Serb, who has won the Paris indoor title six times including in his last two appearances in 2019 and 2021, said his return to Paris brings back fond memories.
“At this point it’s nice to be comfortable on the pitch and to have good memories of a place where you did well. How you feel on the inside affects the bottom line. I always feel good here.” he stressed.
Djokovic will begin his duties in Round 2 in Paris, with the winner of the matchup between Schwartzman and Cressy, while facing Yannick Sinner in Round 3 and Casper Rudd in the quarterfinals.
