(Fort Worth) Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur came from behind to claim a three-set victory over American Jessica Pegula on Wednesday night, keeping her hopes of making the WTA Finals knockout round alive.
Jabeur won the last three games in each of the final two sets to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 after going on a seven-game losing streak early in the clash.
A loss would have put Jabeur in a position where they could have been knocked out following the group stage, due to losing to Aryna Sabalenka in their opener on Monday.
For Jabeur, it was only a second victory in her last nine meetings against a player from top 10. Jabeur also defeated Pegula in the final of the Madrid tournament on clay in May.

For their part, Pegula have now suffered nine straight defeats against rivals from the top 5. By winning the first set against Jabeur, Pegula can still hope to take part in the elimination phase, but his chances remain slim.
In the other singles duel on Wednesday night, fifth-seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece defeated seventh-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-2, 6-4.
This second victory in as many occasions ensured her a place in the semi-finals.
On Monday night, Sakkari defeated Pegula in two identical sets 7-6.
