Sakkari: “I’m fearless on the pitch, it was time to play well again”
Maria Sakkari was thrilled after her win against Ons Zamber, which was reflected in her on-court statements immediately after the match. Among other things, the Greek champion mentioned that she is fearless on the pitch and after a while she plays well again.
Maria Sakkari continued her stellar run at the WTA Finals as she overcame Ons Zambert’s obstacle, whom she defeated 2-0 sets. In her on-court statements following her win, the Greek champion explained that she was fearless in playing tennis and that it was time to return to the big shows.
“I have to keep doing what I’m doing. I trust myself, I’m fearless on the pitch and I’m enjoying my game here. There’s no secret how to play, I think it was time to play well again and I’m very happy it’s happening here.” said Maria Sakkari.
After the match, the two tennis players embraced, with Sakkari explaining the reasons for the move while she praised Tunisia (No. 2 in the world) in the highest tones.

We have known each other for many years, we talked about it a few days ago when we played together in Montenegro for the 3rd division of the Fed Cup and nobody was there. We were two normal players back then, but we both worked very hard to reach the top level.

Four Ukrainian tennis players were included in the doubles entry list Australian Open 2025.
Ukrainian women will play in the doubles tournament on the courts of Melbourne: Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok and Nadezhda Kichenok. Unfortunately, there will be no all-Ukrainian tandem in Australia.
Kostyuk will perform alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Aus Open, and Yastremskaya will play alongside Alisha Parks.
Lyudmila and Nadezhda will not play together at AO-2026, although they will start the season with the same duet in the Brisbane 500 meters. It was announced that Lyudmila will be with Katie Volynets, and Nadezhda will be with Makoto Ninomiya.
Australian Open 2026 will take place from January 12 to February 1. Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya and Alexandra Oleynikova will represent Ukraine in singles. Yulia Starodubtseva, Angelina Kalinina, Daria Snigur and Vitaly Sachko will perform in the eliminations.
