Canadian Denis Shapovalov and his Indian double partner Rohan Bopanna won their first match at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, Qatar on Monday.

Shapovalov and Bopanna defeated Slovakia’s Alex Molcan and Czech Jiri Vesely in three sets 7-5, 4-6 and 10-6.

In their next meeting, Shapovalov and Bopanna will cross swords with the fourth seed, the Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen or the pair formed by Tunisian Malek Jaziri and Qatar Mubarak Zaid.

Shapovalov will obviously take part in the one-way street, where he is the favorite. He will play his first game against Molcan, who beat Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6) and 6-4.

This will be the first clash between the two players in the ATP Tour. Molkan, who is ranked 73rd in the ATP rankings, recently reached the second round of the Australian Open.
