Polish tennis player Iga Sventek (Poland, WTA 1) received the World No. 1 award at the end of the season.

In the updated WTA ranking, Sventek has 11085 points. His closest follower Ounce Jaber has 5030 points less. By the way, this result of Iga in terms of points scored per season is the best since 2013. Then the legendary Serena Williams finished the season in first place in the WTA rankings with 13,260 points.

Note that this season the Polish tennis player has won two Grand Slam tournaments – Roland Garros and the US Open – as well as four WTA 1000 tournaments – Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and Rome. In total, there are eight WTA trophies in 2022.

Iga Sventek played 76 games in the 2022 season and achieved 67 wins. Between the end of February (Doha tournament) and the end of June (Wimbledon), she won 37 games in a row, making it the longest winning streak in women’s tennis in the 21st century.

The Polish woman climbed to the top of the WTA rankings on April 4, 2022 and spent 31 consecutive weeks there (15th result in history). Sventek is only the fourth female tennis player in history to have spent more than 30 consecutive weeks at number one since her debut in the position.

Unfortunately, Iga failed to win the WTA Finals. Polish tennis player lost to Arina Sobolenko in the semi-finals of the tournament.
