Caroline Garcia upset Kasatkina, winning 2-1 and set to face Maria Sakkari in the WTA Finals semifinals.

Maria Sakkari found out about her opponent in the semifinals of the WTA Finals. This will be Caroline Garcia, who won a set 2-1 against Daria Kasatkina.

The French (No. 6 in the world) found herself falling behind in the standings but then took the next two and secured a spot in the semifinals for second in her group behind Sviontek.

Sakkari (No. 5) faced the French twice more and was defeated both times. This time their match will also have a direct impact on the world rankings as whoever wins will end the year in 4th place.

The match between the two athletes will take place either on Sunday evening after 10:30 p.m. or early Monday (not before 2 a.m.).

In the other semi-final, this year’s outstanding Iga Sviontek (No. 1) will face Arina Sambalenka (No. 7). The impressive stat for the four players who qualified for the semi-finals is that they surpassed anyone who had previously played in a WTA Finals.

Sviontek, Sakkari, Sambalenka and Garcia were back in the battle for the top eight athletes of the year. Instead, Pegula, Zambe, Kasatkina and Goff competed for the first time.
