Djokovic: The last time Nole lost by upset in Paris, Rooney was nine years old
Novak Djokovic was upset by Holger Rooney in the final of the Paris Masters, something that has only happened a handful of times in his great career.
Holger Rooney won the biggest title of his career at the age of 19 after winning the Paris Masters against Novak Djokovic.
But most importantly, the Dane managed to turn the score against Nole. The Serb won the first set and then Rooney pulled off the big surprise.
To understand the magnitude of his achievement, suffice it to say that it just happened 26 times in a match ending in two winning sets.
How many times has this happened in a best-of-3 finals tournament? This was only the second time after Chiles at the Queens Club in 2018.
Overall, Djokovic has lost three more times in the finals, with Wawrinka beating him in two matches and Nadal in one, all in Best of 5 and Grand Slams.
Even more impressive is when he lost in Paris. We have to go back in time to 2012 when Rune was nine years old. Then Sam Currey had the only surprise against Djokovic at the Paris Masters.
Nole had won the first set 6-0 and the next two went to the Americans 7-6 (5), 6-4.
