Garcia – Sakkari 2: 0: The French stopped Maria in the semifinals of the WTA Finals
Maria Sakkari lost 2-0 sets to Caroline Garcia, ending her appearance at the WTA Finals in the semifinals.
Maria Sakkari’s year is over. The 27-year-old Greek was defeated 2-0 by Caroline Garcia, while the French qualified for the final of the WTA Finals.
Garcia’s aggressive receiving game was what made the difference when it came time to trouble Sakkari’s serve.
The match: Both started the game nervously with many mistakes that led to many breaks. The French initially managed to take a 3-1 lead.
Sakkari reacted immediately and reduced the lead to 3-2 before Garcia grabbed her third straight break of the game to take a 4-2 lead. In the seventh game we had a fight between the two athletes, with the Frenchwoman redeeming her second break to make it 5-2.
Sakkari held after an hour to reduce to 5-3, but immediately afterwards Garcia managed to finish the first set 6-3.
Garcia absolutely dominated with psychology on her side. She started the second set with a break and with her risk in the reception it worked absolutely, the 4-0 was without any problems.
Sakkari broke Garcia’s streak by holding serve for the next two games, but she was unable to claim more than the match, with the French finishing the set and match 6-3, 6-2.
