Djokovic: “I expect a difficult debut against Tsitsipas”
Novak Djokovic spoke about his presence at the ATP Finals and referred to his premiere against Tsitsipas (11/14, 10 p.m.) and emphasized that a difficult match awaited him.
Novak Djokovic is gearing up for his 15th appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals and his only goal is to win for the 6th time the prestigious trophy that will see him equal the tournament record set by the great Roger Federer.
The draw wasn’t the best for the 35-year-old Serb as he was placed in the Red Group alongside Medvedev, Tsitsipah and Rublev.
At the start of the red group on Monday (November 14, not before 10 p.m.) Nole meets Stefanos Tsitsipas, whom he recently defeated in a decisive set tiebreak in the semifinals of the Paris Masters.
“I’ve played him in the last two tournaments, in the final in Astana and in the semifinals in Paris. Both games were very close, especially the one in Paris. I know that I’ll undoubtedly have a very tough match ahead of me.” .” said Djokovic at the official press conference on Friday from Turin.
Tsitsipas and Djokovic meet for the 12th time, with Nole reigning supreme in H2H with 9-2 wins and 8 straight wins.
At last year’s event, the Serb lost in a tiebreak in the 3rd set to eventual champion and this season’s big loser Alexander Zverev.
“I don’t feel young like most of the competitors here. It’s been a long time since my first ATP Finals appearance but I think I’m in good shape. Especially in the last 4-5 months. I’ve got Wimbledon and most Halls won tournaments before the ATP Finals” Added nol.
Djokovic had ended his participation in Turin by winning Wimbledon, despite not being in the top 8 until last week. Despite missing several major tournaments due to his anti-vaccine status, the Serb managed to maintain his best form in the second half of the season and travels to Torino with a 37-7 record.
“That would be a perfect end to the season” said Djokovic about the possibility of winning the trophy at the ATP Finals. “It’s the icing on the cake for sure, but there’s still a long way to go. It’s a big week. You have to play against the best players in the world. You have to play pretty much everyone at least once in this tournament.” , so I’m looking forward to it. I have experience many times in this tournament, in this format, and hopefully he can help me.”
