Tsitsipas: Looking for the perfect one in Turin for an epic finish
Stefanos Tsitsipas will be chasing a long run at the ATP Finals with the aim of even reaching number 1 in the world rankings.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has a chance to bring a magical ending to this season on the ATP Tour as winning the ATP Finals unbeaten will see him climb to the top of the world rankings for the first time in his career.
Tsitsipas starts the difficult effort from career-high No.3 in the ATP rankings and has no room for error if he wants to conquer the top.
Of course, his mission isn’t easy as the draw wasn’t particularly kind to him, putting him in the Red Group alongside Djokovic, Medvedev and Rublev.
11 wins and 20 losses is the record of the Greek champions against their opponents in the red group and only against Rublev does he have a positive record (6-4).
To win the number 1 at the end of the year, Stefanos has to start 5-0 in Turin. That means winning the title without losing. In 2019, Tsitsipas made his ATP Finals debut and managed to reach the title in London, losing to Rafael Nadal in the final group stage.
Rafael Nadal also claims No. 1 in the rankings and will thrive as long as he remains undefeated in the final. If this scenario is confirmed, the Spaniard will have the same points as Alcarath, but he will finish on top because he has more points in Grand Slam and Masters tournaments.
The ATP Finals scoring system awards 200 points for each group win, 400 points for a semi-final win and 500 points for a final win.
The battle for 1st place
| Points | |
| 1) Carlos Alcaraz | 6,820 |
| 2) Raphael Nadal | 5,820 |
| 3) Stefanos Tsitsipas | 5,350 |
