Rafael Nadal: I need more matches
22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal explained the nature of the defeat in the first leg of the ATP Finals from American Taylor Fritz. The Spanish tennis player admitted that his training was incomplete.
“I need more games to play at this level. Even though I’ve trained well – much better than I’ve been competing, no doubt. But it’s normal.
Not the best tournament in terms of coming back two months off the field. There is no time to gain trust. I still have a chance. But of course I’m not very happy with the beginning,” Nadal said.
Recall that Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime also played in the quartet with Nadal and Fritz in the ATP Finals. Their match in the 1st round ended with the Norwegian Ruud’s victory in two sets.
