ATP Finals: Rudd stops outstanding Ozer Aliasim
Casper Ruud prevailed 2-0 in a set against Philex Ozer Aliasim and thus celebrated his first win at the ATP Finals in Turin.
This year’s two-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Rudd started his quest for distinction at this year’s ATP Finals in the best possible way.
The 23-year-old Norwegian beat Felix Ozer Aliasim in straight sets in the tournament’s inaugural event and made an ideal start in Turin by taking a qualifying lead in the institution’s ‘4’ from Matchday 1.
Aliasim fell short of expectations, making many mistakes and failing to keep his composure at crucial moments, with the world No. 4 capitalizing on his advantage and prevailing 7-6(4), 6-4after an hour and 52 minutes of competition.
In their 6th meeting on the tour, Rudd picked up his 4th win over the Canadian and unlike last year’s ATP Finals debut where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic, he went 1-0 in his green group debut and became leader of the group. Good morning .
Despite Aliasim’s 14 aces and the 22-year-old’s zero (!) points lost on his second serve, a slump in his first six service games followed, with Rudd staying alive as the ball ‘burned’.
In the tie-break of the first set, the Norwegian managed three mini-breaks behind Felix’s three-second serve and thus took the lead in the set.
As if that wasn’t enough, in the 7th game of the 2nd set he took advantage of the Canadian’s four lost points in a row and managed the only break-in of the game after the world No. 6 double fault, made it 4-3 and moments later “it was closed” “the game.
Roode finished the match with just five unforced errors and without being threatened with a break point by Aliasim, he drove to the valuable win. Canada’s winners stopped at 30. But they weren’t even allowed to give him a set.
