Tarpishchev on Rublev’s defeat by Djokovic: “I expected more from him. After the first set, it became clear that Andrei did not find a way to win.
President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev said that he was expecting a better game from Andrei Rublev in the match against Serb Novak Djokovic in the group stage of the final ATP tournament.
On Wednesday, Djokovic beat Rublev 6:4, 6:1 and reached the semi-finals of the tournament in Turin ahead of schedule.
– I expected more from Rublev. But the result was also predictable, because on such a surface (hard), Djokovic is more skillful in terms of the game class. Andrey’s aggression against Novak’s skill didn’t work. The Serb plays all over the court: he has variety, and he plays tactically more sophisticated. To win, Rublev had to play more consistently. After the first set, it became clear that Andrey had not found a way to win, – Tarpishchev is quoted by the Championship.
Two days later, the 35-year-old Serbian will face Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final match of the group stage, Rublev will play with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
