Alkarath will definitely be number 1 at the end of the year and make history
Nadal and Tsitsipas can no longer claim world No. 1, meaning Carlos Alcarat will end the year there and become the youngest person to do so.
After Rafa Nadal’s mathematical exclusion from the continuation of this year’s ATP Finals, Carlos Alcarath emerged as the best tennis player of the year and ended his unreal season at number 1 in the world rankings.
The 19-year-old Spaniard made career history once again as year-ending number 1 ‘unlocked’ another great achievement: becoming the youngest tennis player ever to finish a year as world number 1!
At the age of 19 years and 6 months, the recent US Open champion “broke” the record set by Lleyton Hewitt, who had placed 1st in 2001 at the age of 20 years and 10 months.
After 21 years, the Spaniard managed to oust the Australian legend from the top of the list, adding another major feat to his already… record-breaking fortune.
The list of the five youngest tennis players to rank #1 at the end of the year
- Carlos Alcarath | 19 years and 6 months, 2022
- Leighton Hewitt | 20 years and 10 months, 2001
- Andy Roddick | 21 years and 4 months, 2003
- Jimmy Connors | 22 years and 3 months, 1974
- Jim Currier | 22 years and 4 months, 1992
