1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrey Chesnokov was pleased with Daniil Medvedev’s level of play in the match against Serb Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals.

The Russian lost to the former leader of the world rankings, finishing the tournament with three losses in three matches.

– I was at the match – an amazing game, just a masterpiece! Such speed! At the beginning, Daniil gradually swayed, and at the end of the second set, a masterpiece began – and the entire third set was amazing. Djokovic lost his serve for the first time in a tournament with Medvedev. After that, Daniil served for the match, but a similar situation occurred, as in the match with Tsitsipas. Even the score was the same. But the game was a success – like the final of the Final Tournament! Amazing pace, speed and draws.

Losing three matches in a row 6:7 in the third set is incredibly disappointing. It would be fine if there were “doers” or weak players, but this is the Final Tournament. It seems to me that this is the only case in all the tournaments when a tennis player in the group lost all his matches in the decisive set in a tie-break.

I think Dana missed the victory over Nadal at the beginning of the year. It would give confidence for the whole season. Then an injury knocked him down … But at the end of the year, Medvedev was in very good shape. Even after losing all three matches… If you take all the matches, he played the worst with Rublev. Then he played better with Tsitsipas, and with Djokovic there was a phenomenal match. It is a pity that he lost again. If he had won, the victory would have given confidence. But he lost to an opponent who is currently in the top 3 players according to the game, and not to the one who ran into the last car. – quotes the words of Chesnokov “Championship”.
