STAKHOVSKY: “I will wear National Guard uniform at all public events”
Ukrainian tennis player Sergei Stakhovsky talked about their participation in the ATP ceremony held in honor of the players who completed their careers.
– How did you come up with the idea of going out dressed as the National Guard? Were there any problems with this for the leadership of the Asia-Pacific region?
– Actually, it was not an idea, it was a decision. At this stage, I will take part as the National Guard of Ukraine in all public events that I will participate in. Of course I forewarned ATP. They had no complaints about it and simply said: “The main thing is that you will be here, and in what form – we will support it.”
– On the same day, Russian tennis players Medvedev and Rublev played in the Final Tournament. Did you meet them anywhere?
– I went to midfield only during the ceremony and Kokinakis / Kyrios double game against the duet Pavic / Mektic. I didn’t go to singles matches for obvious reasons. When Medvedev returned from his press conference after his match with Djokovic, my paths crossed with him in the room below the stands. I ignored his greeting, and Rublev and I shook hands when we met in the players section before the game.
